Thione-based biocides (typically 2-mercaptobenzothiazole – MBT, or sodium 2-mercaptobenzothiazole – NaMBT) are specialty biocides from Innova Corporate for Ahmedabad's metalworking fluids, industrial lubricants, closed-loop water systems, and antifoulant paints. Thione compounds are effective against a wide range of bacteria and fungi, with particular efficacy against Pseudomonas species that form tenacious, slimy biofilms in recirculating cooling towers and metalworking fluid sumps. For Ahmedabad's engineering and auto component manufacturing units (clusters in Changodar, Sanand, Kathwada, and Naroda), thione-based biocides are added to cutting fluids, grinding fluids, and hydraulic fluids to prevent rancidity, bacterial degradation, and odor. Typical dosage: 50-150 ppm initially, then 10-30 ppm weekly extends fluid life from 3 months to over 12 months. In closed cooling loops (chillers, diesel generator jackets, and process cooling), thione provides long-term preservation without breaking down – it is stable up to 80°C and over pH 6-10. It works by chelating essential metal ions (copper, iron, zinc) from microbial enzymes, effectively starving the microorganisms. Thione is non-foaming, non-volatile, and has very low odor – important for Ahmedabad's facilities located near residential areas (e.g., mixed-use industrial zones in Naroda and Odhav). However, it can stain yellow metals (copper, brass, bronze) at high concentrations (above 500 ppm), forming dark copper mercaptide films. For systems with copper alloy heat exchangers, we recommend a lower dosage or the use of a tolyltriazole (TTZ) corrosion inhibitor to compete for active sites. For Ahmedabad's textile dyeing machines (which have complex recirculation loops with pump seals, valves, and heat exchangers), thione prevents algae and bacterial slime in dye baths without affecting dye chemistry (unlike oxidizing biocides). It is also used in reverse osmosis (RO) pretreatment for membrane storage (100-200 ppm) – but check membrane compatibility (it is safe for polyamide at low concentrations). The product is available as a 40-50% active liquid dispersion (sodium salt form) and as a 98% active powder (2-mercaptobenzothiazole). The liquid form is easier to dose and disperses readily. For antifoulant paints (used on boat hulls and cooling water intake structures – relevant for Ahmedabad's Narmada canal water intakes), thione is a common biocide. Available in 25L, 200L drums (liquid) and 25kg bags (powder). We provide on-site microbial dip slides and plate counts to monitor metalworking fluid health. Shelf life: 24 months.
Dosage in cooling water treatment programs 15 to 30 ppm for effective control of biocide activity, for cooling waters.
INNOVA BCD 505 can be fed as received or diluted with water minimum 10% concentration with any chemical feed solution. The chemical should be added to cooling tower basin (or any other point, which provides uniform mixing) addition should be made to metering pump to minimize handling.
Badly fouled systems must be cleaned before treatment to start. INITIAL DOSE - When the system is noticeably fouled, slug feed 30 to 50 ppm of INNOVA BCD 505 in the system. SUBSEQUENT DOSE - When the Microbial count is evident, slug feed 20 to 30 ppm of INNOVA BCD 505.
The best indication of the successful application of INNOVA BCD 505 is visual inspection of tower surfaces or monitoring changes in heat transfer on metal surface of process equipment.
Uses of on-site bacterial counts or microscopic examination provide relative indicators of system cleanliness and biological control. If bacteria counts are used, Note that counts may be high immediately after biocide addition. Counts will be lower as control is achieved.
INNOVA BCD 505 is available in 25Kgs, 50Kgs & 200 Kgs.
