In Ethiopia's cooling towers – serving textile mills (Hawassa, Bole Lemi, Kombolcha), leather tanneries, food processing plants (coffee, sugar, edible oil), and beverage bottling units – the high ambient temperatures (30-35°C/86-95°F in the lowlands, 20-25°C/68-77°F in the highlands) cause moderate evaporation, concentrating calcium, magnesium, and silica, leading to sticky sludge that reduces heat transfer efficiency by 20-30%.
